Our campus is named after Ms. Georgia Brown, a former elementary teacher. At Georgia Brown School we look forward to the challenge of equipping students for their bright and successful futures.

"Brown's Best"

We recognize the positive contributions that our students make. Student recognition assemblies are held each month where students are recognized for academics, sportsmanship, citizenship, and social responsibility. Building our students´ self-esteem is a component of every teacher´s program. At Georgia Brown School we strive to create an environment where all students have the opportunity to learn and grow.

Staff

Our staff of thirty-one teachers and our support staff work hard to create an environment where all students feel important, secure, and have a sense of belonging.

Literacy and Technology

Staff is committed to promoting literacy for all students. We believe that we can best help our students prepare for the twenty-first century by increasing their proficiency in reading, writing, and problem solving. We believe that students in the elementary grades should utilize technology daily to help develop their reading, writing, and problem solving skills.

Georgia Brown School has an Apple computer lab, a Macintosh computer lab and mini-labs in several classrooms. The staff uses the program ¨Talking Fingers¨ to teach phonics, word processing, reading, and writing. A site technology mentor trains staff and students on current technology. A Reading Recovery teacher, Early Intervention assistants, a Reading Specialist, and two Title I teachers provide services for students in both English and Spanish.

Parents and Volunteers

We are proud of our school and invite you to be involved. To provide the best possible education, we believe it is important to form a partnership between students, staff, parents, and community members. Our P.T.A. provides equipment, supplies, and field trips for our students. Parent volunteers help with the newsletter, vision and dental screening, picture day, parades, book fairs, and many more events. Parents also serve on our School Site Council to help plan and monitor our School Improvement and Title I programs. Programs for student support and parent involvement are extensive. English as a Second Language classes for parents, parent leadership groups, and support groups in English and Spanish are ongoing.
